Build Noah’s Ark with Blocks
Turn blocks into a faith-filled adventure: guide your children in building Noah’s ark step by step. A hands-on homeschool activity they’ll love.

Objective: In this hands-on lesson, children will learn Noah’s story through building an ark model, discussing key themes of obedience, care, and God’s promises.
Materials (no printables needed)
- Building blocks (Lego, wooden, or any stackable set)
- Small toy animals or simple paper cut-outs
- A large tray or mat to build on
- A Bible or storybook for reference
1. Introduction (2 minutes)
Gather around your building area. Ask:
“Who knows the story of Noah’s Ark? What animals would you bring aboard?”
Briefly recap: God asked Noah, a faithful man, to build a huge boat to save his family and two of every animal. Noah obeyed, even before it ever rained.
2. Lay the Hull (2 minutes)
- Roll out your mat on the floor or table.
- Build a flat rectangle: about 8 blocks long and 4 blocks wide.
- Explain: Noah worked for years—his obedience was the foundation of God’s rescue plan.
3. Raise the Walls (2 minutes)
- Add a second layer of blocks around the hull, leaving a gap for the door.
- Talk about how God’s instructions sometimes seem odd but always keep us safe—just like the walls of the ark kept out the flood.
4. March in the Animals (1 minute)
- Invite kids to bring two of each animal and place them inside.
- Ask:
- “Why two of each?”
- “How does caring for animals show God’s love?”
5. Seal the Roof (1 minute)
- Cap your ark with a flat roof of blocks.
- Remind them: the roof kept water out—God’s promises shelter us today.
6. Reflect on the Promise (1 minute)
Read Genesis 9:12–15 aloud:
“This is the sign of the covenant I am making… I have set my rainbow in the clouds…”
Discuss:
- “What promises has God kept in your life?”
- “How can we remember His faithfulness every day?”
7. Discussion Questions
- How did Noah’s obedience protect his family?
- What if Noah had doubted God’s instructions—how might the story change?
- How can we trust God when His plans seem strange?
8. Extension Ideas
- Draw your own rainbow promise on paper.
- Build other Bible scenes with blocks (Tower of Babel, Solomon’s Temple).
- Read a picture book about the ark and compare details.
